welcome to everyday aperture.  there’s photography inside, so come on in.

click on the links to navigate.

nothing special.  nothing pretentious.  just images of the world as i see it, or at least how my camera captures it.  there are categories to the left of this page for you to browse or you can click on recent posts.  the photos are not full size to ease loading times.  each picture is linked to my flickr page at Everydayaperture.  just click on a shot and it will take you there automatically.  you’ll see more photos and detail there. i also have the privilege of being part of a nyc based photo collective. you can find us at photodrifting or at flickr here.

enjoy.  comment if you’d like.  let me know if you have photos to share.  i’d love to see them.

here’s a shout out to my equipment, whom without i wouldn’t be able to take pictures.  my canon 400D with an array of lenses (standard kit lens 18-55, 24mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.8, and 135mm f/2.0) and some trusty point and shoots, a sony p93 and a canon powershot g10.   i use my trusty iphoto on my macbook for any post-processing stuff, so i guess that means my post-processing is minimal, if at all.

i’ve been doing ’street photography’ for the last few years as a hobby.  i was inspired to take up this kind of photography by my good friend jeffrey fx — to me the best unknown street photographer out there.  he had an amazing way of framing his subjects, probably because he was able to get close.

when i have my camera with me, i notice the world is full of interesting people and things.  it makes me appreciate the world a little more instead of focussing on what time i am supposed to be at a particular place.  maybe everyone should walk around with a camera.  maybe there’ll be less war.  or maybe just more people walking around aimlessly looking for a picture to take.

  4. hi, i love your photos…i’m about to buy a Canon 50D and am trying to decide between 50mm or 28mm as a prime lens…i’m mostly interested in street photography. I came across your site and thought i’d throw the question out to you.

  5. hey steve, thanks for the shout out.

Both are very good lenses and, depending on which 50 and 28 you decide on, you could technically get both and not break the bank. That said, with the crop factor on the 50D, it will all depend on the type of street shots you are planning on doing.

If you are going for headshots primarily and are not worred about bringing the camera to your face to take a shot, the 50 is going to be a good choice. That said, you will still have to get close, even with the crop factor. Apart from street photography, the 50 is a great walk around lens and with its wide aperture, is good for night shots, too.

As for the 28, it’s a fairly good lens. You can do a lot of hip shooting much easier than with the 50 and still get an acceptable composition. So, if you’re doing street shots where you’re in tight spaces and being discreet is key, the 28 would be good.

That said, my favorite lenses for street shots, depending on my mood and what I want to capture, are these: 135/2.0; 85/1.8; 24/2.8; and the 10-20mm(EF).

    Good luck!
